Celebrating 50 years of impactful researchPublish date: 2017-01-31
Bingley, United Kingdom, 9 January 2017 – Since 1967, Emerald Publishing has believed in nurturing fresh thinking and publishing research that drives broader outcomes and greater impact. Over the years, we’ve helped thousands of people to translate theory into reality and champion the thinkers whose new – and specialist – ideas make a difference to the real world.
To reflect this philosophy, our publishing experts have selected 50 articles published by Emerald over our 50-year history that have captured the imagination of the wider world and made a particularly powerful impact. And these highly prized and valuable articles have been made free for everyone to access during the whole of 2017.
Examples of some of the papers include a 1967 article appropriately titled "Brave New Business" heralding the potential impact of computerization on the business world; 1973’s daring (and then highly controversial) "Sex in advertising: its relevance, use and effects" a 1992 paper "World-wide Web: The Information Universe" by Tim Berners-Lee highlighting the potential of what we now know as ‘the internet’, and a whole wealth more of historical and very much contemporary impactful research
Tony Roche, Publishing Director at Emerald Publishing, said “We are excited to share and offer free access to some of the most influential research we have ever published.
“The 50 articles not only allow us to demonstrate how we help research and researchers make an impact, but also act as a gift from us to our global communities to mark our 50th anniversary. 2017 is an exciting year for Emerald and this is just one of the many ways we’ll be giving back to the communities we serve, whilst celebrating the work of our authors.”
Emerald is also celebrating 50 years of academic publishing with the launch of a new brand, product launches, charity fundraising, education initiatives and celebrations with its communities at important global publishing events.
Each of the 50 articles will be promoted on Emerald’s social media channels for the next 50 weeks. They can also be accessed at any time, from anywhere, here: emerald50/impact
